There are some people who just have a way of making everything brighter, and for me, that person is Baylie. She’s my brother-in-law’s niece, but I’ve known her since the day she was born, so I consider her a niece of mine as well. Baylie has always been a little firecracker—spunky, hilarious, and someone I can never take too seriously. I mean, the girl has the most amazing RBF, even though we are laughing through almost every moment of our sessions together.
One of my favorite memories from this year was during a session where I had to bring my little one, Pecos, along because I didn’t have a babysitter. Baylie was so excited to see her little cousin, and we ended up playing around while Pecos was busy throwing rocks into the river. Suddenly, one of the rocks went flying towards Baylie’s face, coming inches from hitting her. The look on her face was absolutely priceless! I wish I had my camera out to capture that moment because it was definitely one for the books.
Throughout the year, Baylie and I had our fair share of rain delays and reschedules. It seemed like every time we planned a session, the weather had other ideas. It actually became a running joke between us, but it was funny in a way. I’ll never forget the time on the way to her last session when it started pouring rain. We were both thinking, “Here we go again!” But, just as we arrived, the rain stopped, and the sunset that evening was pure perfection. It felt like the universe was finally giving us the perfect moment.
For her last session, she picked Tandy Hills in Fort Worth—a true gem with some of the most stunning views of downtown and hands-down one of the best places to catch a sunset. The tall, wispy grass, wildflowers, and winding dirt trails create the dreamiest backdrop. If you’re thinking about using Tandy Hills for your next session, be sure to stay on the trails and respect the natural beauty. Let’s help preserve this gorgeous spot so future generations can enjoy it too!
What made that session even more special was that her boyfriend had also purchased a session with me, and he booked it on the same day. So, we were able to do Baylie’s session first, then his, and at the end, we got to capture some adorable couple photos of them together. It was such a fun and memorable day.
Baylie has this unique ability to show up for a session in her Ugg slippers because, as she says, walking in heels is “no bueno.” I totally get it! Girl, I feel you on that struggle. There’s something so real and relatable about her that makes her even more lovable, and it’s just another reason why I adore her.
Baylie, I want you to know how thankful I am that I’ve gotten to grow even closer to you this year. It’s been such a joy watching you grow up from that tiny little baby to a sweet toddler and now to a beautiful young woman. I am so proud of everything you’ve accomplished and all the amazing things you will continue to do in the future. Always remember that I’m here for you, no matter what you need. I love you so much, sweet girl.
Love, Aunt Jay
